Powered by Ed Pinks supercharged Ramcharger Hemi the Blue Max Mustang became one of drag racing’s most legendary funny cars. The attention to detail on this precision diecast is absolutely stunning. Lift the lightweight bodywork to view the metal header pipes on the wired and plumbed race motor. Fantastically painted with Superior Sizzler flaming graphics and wired parachute and wheelie bar this exclusive new diecast will get your heart thumping!
“Harry was a very special individual,” remembered Tharp fondly. “He was very smart and way ahead of his time. He was the first one to put a quick-change [rear end] in a Funny Car and the first to run a big fuel pump and hang a lot of weight on the clutch. We didn’t really know why we were doing it at the time, but it worked. At the time, we had one of the cars to beat. There was us, the Ramchargers, ‘Snake’ [Don Prudhomme], and ‘Goose’ [Tom McEwen], and ‘Jungle’ [Jim Liberman] and [the] Chi-Town [Hustler].
Richard Tharp’s 1971 Blue Max Mustang! Every detail faithfully recreated to match the vintage funny car. Own an iconic drag racer! With over 120 parts, a completely plumbed and wired engine, a die-cast tubular chassis, and detailed rims, this 1971 Ford Mustang Blue Max 1:18 Scale Funny Car makes the perfect addition to your drag race display car collection! Everything from the detail of the graphics to the engine itself has been faithfully recreated based on historical research to match those on the 1971 Blue Max. Now you can add a car to your display at home that matches the very same one Richard Tharp took to a win at the International Hot Rod Association Winternationals in 1971. The Blue Max has since become an iconic symbol of drag racing, and you can now make it your own! The Blue Max name originated in 1970 when owner Harry Schmidt was inspired by the German WWI aviation film of the same name, and then adopted the Blue Max name and logo for his Ford mustang funny car. The Blue Max quickly began to garner a reputation for speed, breaking records at tracks across the country.
